Special Projects

The VOCM Cares Foundation partners with a number of other charities for different projects throughout the year. The following is a list of just some of the annual special projects the foundation supports:

Lilies for Lillies

Lilies for Lillies was created in 2003 in memory of Lillie Delaney who passed away of leukemia at the tender age of 53.  Founded by Lille's son Gord, the charity started as a small memorial concert in 2003 and has since grown into a provincially recognized fundraiser.  Over the past 7 years, Lilies for lillies has raised and donated over $140,000 for various charities on both the provincial and national levels.  The signature fundraiser of Lilies for Lillie is the annual lapel pin that is created and sold throughout the province and beyond.  While it is a fundraising tool, it is primarily is a symbol of hope and a celebration of life that are worn by thousands of people.

VOCM Cares, in partnership with Scotiabank, is very proud to support this campaign. 

VOCM Cares/Newfoundland and Labrador Foster Families Association Bursary

The role of biological and adopted children of foster parents is an extremely important one because fostering is a family affair. These young people share their partents with others and must learn to adjust to an ever changing home environment. In regognition of their contribution and support tot he children who are placed in their home, VOCM Cares and the NL Foster Families Association has established a Bursary Program to assist with education expenses.

Who Can Apply? A biological or adopted child of an approved foster family residing in the provice. The applicant must be enroled in a post-secondary education program.

Bursary Amount: One bursary of 500.oo will be awarded each year.

Application Deadline: Applications and all supporting documentation must be received at the NL Foster Families office by September 15.

Selection and Presentation: After reviewing all applications, the selection committee will determine who will be awarded the Bursary. The successful applicant will receive the Bursary during the third week of October in celebration of Foster Families Week

HMCS St. John’s Run The Rock 

Officers and Crew of the HMCS St. John’s run across the province, raising funds in support of the Children’s Wish Foundation.

Block the Bus Campaign

VOCM and VOCM Cares have partnered with a number of local businesses to implement a school supply drive. The"Block the Bus" promotion invites members of the business and local community to donate school supplies by dropping items at local collection points. These items are then distributed to needy families. In 2008 the Village Mall partnered with this program to provide 120 backpacks filled with school supplies to the Bridges of Hope

Concert Crowd Production 

For a number of years, a group of performers known as the Concert Crowd present an evening of song and short-skit entertainment usually held at the Arts and Culture Centre in St. John’s. Each year, the VOCM Cares Foundation assists with promotion of the event, and the group donate back a percentage of proceeds received from the concert to the foundation.

Antique Car Shows - The following Antique Car Clubs donate a portion of proceeds from their annual car show to the VOCM Cares Foundation each year:

Bay Wheels Car Show: Held at the Bay Arena in Bay Roberts, and sponsored by the Prince of Wales Loyal Orange Lodge No. 26 in Cupids

Classic Wheels Car Show: Held at the Glacier in Mount Pearl, and sponsored by the Newfoundland Antique and Classic Car Club

Central Antique Car Show: Held at the Harry Ivany Arena in Botwood, and sponsored by the Central Newfoundland Antique Car Club.
